Transition Minister
I was born and grew up in Bangor in County Down, Northern Ireland. I studied history in Edinburgh and Oxford before becoming a tax inspector, and later a tax consultant with an accountancy firm. I subsequently trained for ministry at New College in Edinburgh.
My first charge was as parish minister of Kennoway, Windygates and Balgonie in Fife. After 19 years there, I moved to Fort William Duncansburgh Macintosh linked with Kilmonivaig, in the West Highlnads, where I spent about six years. I moved to Glasgow on a five year contract as Transition minister at what was then Wellington Church in 2022. I claim that the culture shock from moving from West Highlands to West End shows some level of adaptability! Since coming to Glasgow I have helped the congregation to navigate the Presbytery planning process and to complete a union with Kelvinbridge, by which Kelvin West was born.
I have had various roles in the wider church connected to finance and to overseas projects of the Church of Scotland. I have also supervised a number of students in each of my posts. I’m currently an Honorary Chaplain to the University of Glasgow.
I’m married with two grown-up children and one granddaughter. I enjoy folk and traditional music, like to travel (most recently to India and New Zealand), and love spending time looking after our granddaughter. If you catch me with a faraway look in my eye, I’m probably imagining myself on a beach on the west side of Barra or North Uist!

Locally Ordained Minister
I was born in Dundee but am a ‘Ten Pound Pom’ as my parents emigrated to Australia when I was three years of age. They returned after 4 years and settled in South Wales.
I studied medicine in London and eventually came to Glasgow to work in Rheumatology at Glasgow Royal Infirmary after having spent 2 years in Northern Nigeria. I became Professor of Rheumatology in the University of Glasgow and towards the end of my medical career I trained as a Reader in the Church of Scotland attached to Ruchill church and was subsequently ordained as an OLM (ordained local minister) in 2014 after gaining a BD degree at Trinity college in the University of Glasgow. I am now one of the Honorary chaplains to the University of Glasgow with a special remit at the medical school.
I am married to Helen and have three daughters and eight grandchildren. I enjoy curling, sci fy and am a bit of a ‘trekkie!’.

Parish MinisterHello, I’m Gordon, and I serve on the Ministry Team at Kelvin West Parish Church. I previously ministered at Kelvinbridge Parish Church and its predecessor, Kelvin Stevenson Memorial in Belmont Street, for twenty-one years. Moving to form the new united Kelvin West Parish was a big step, but it’s been a joy to see our new church community grow and thrive together.
Born in Edinburgh and raised in New Stevenston, near Motherwell, I grew up in a Christian home and felt called to ministry while studying Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde. I trained at the University of Glasgow and was ordained in 1987. Since then, I’ve served in churches in Aberdeenshire but mainly across west central Scotland, focusing on preaching, pastoral care, mission, and leading worship. I also have a keen interest in liturgy.
Outside of ministry, I love train travel, playing keyboards, watching Star Trek (especially The Next Generation and Voyager), computers, mechanical chiming clocks, and spending time with family and friends. I feel blessed by the fellowship of our congregation and look forward to welcoming you to Kelvin West Parish Church.

Youth and Outreach Worker
I’ve been serving as Youth and Outreach Worker since January 2022, originally with Kelvinbridge Parish Church before we became Kelvin West Parish Church in November 2024.
I love sharing the good news of who Jesus is, and I’m excited to continue working in the West End of Glasgow. A big part of my role involves spending time each week in our local schools, building connections and supporting young people and other in the community.
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me enjoying video games, watching TV and films, cheering on both men’s and women’s football, listening to music, or exploring God’s creation outdoors.
If you’d like to know more about our Youth or Community Outreach work, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Staff Team
Our current staff team includes both an experienced Administrator and a dedicated Organist, each playing a vital role in the smooth running and spiritual life of our church community.

Director of Music
I was brought up in Coatbridge and attended nearby Glasgow University, studying music. The BMus degree offered at that time was very much a written course (history, harmony, etc), but also offered a few performance opportunities. Moving to Glasgow in 1984, I have worked as a full time freelance musician, accompanying, arranging, recording and performing throughout Scotland and beyond, with much involvement in the field of light music and entertainment music, and covering a wide variety of musical styles. I have been a church organist almost continuously since high school years, playing in two Coatbridge churches and subsequently moving to Wellington Church in 2005.
Having deputised on occasion for the previous organist Malcolm Sim, I was attracted and encouraged by the importance which this Church places on music, both within and outwith services. The singing of hymns is a core part of Church of Scotland worship, and I have always been interested in trying to provide colourful and meaningful hymn accompaniments. The fine 1884 Forster & Andrews organ has a huge range of sounds available for this purpose. An interest in organ music is often coupled with an interest in liturgical choral music, and it is a privilege to choose, prepare and rehearse with our talented and dedicated choir each Sunday. Outwith music, my leisure pursuits include travelling and fair-weather cycling.
